the new star wars trailer is out and i’m kind of excited.

Honestly, I’m not a Star Wars fan.  My siblings are, though, so I’ve seen the movies multiple times, heard sections of the Shakespeare versions (“Luke, prepare thyself for company!”), listened to my siblings talk about all of the spin-off books, and have heard theory after theory about the Star Wars universe.  All while yawning and trying to get back to whatever else I was doing before.

But the trailer for Force Awakens came out last night and my sister and I watched it and… well, I’m kind of excited.  It’s directed by the wonderful J.J. Abrams (who directed the amazing Star Trek reboots), and even has some of my favorite actors in it (DOMHNALL GLEESON, BABY).

I think the main reason I’m excited, though, is because it just looks better than the originals.  Now, I know I’m gonna get a lot of hate for this, but… I just didn’t like the story of the original six.  Episodes IV, V, and VI were better, as far as the story, and Episodes I, II, and III had better cinematography (and special effects).  But I never really got into it, probably because it was forced on me (pun intended *wink*) by my mega-fan siblings.  I don’t know.  Maybe I’ll like the newer one more.  We’ll see.

If you haven’t seen the trailer, here it is.  (It’s already at eight million views.  Golly. Pete.)

fanvid friday | this is for the lonely {peter pan}

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – I have a nearly unhealthy love/obsession for anything related to Peter Pan.  I’ve seen all of the movies (including Hook, the musical, and Finding Neverland, which totally counts), seen the musical live, and am currently addicted to the Peter Pan-inspired webseries, The New Adventures of Peter + Wendy.  (I’m also currently reading the book for the first time and I don’t know why I haven’t read it before now.)  The 2003 film version starring Jeremy Sumpter is my favorite version – yes, beating even the old Disney classic.  Sorry, guys.  It’s just SO. BEAUTIFUL.  If you haven’t seen it, seriously, what are you doing with your life?!

fanvid friday | little wonders {saints and soldiers}

[Insert obligatory apology for long absence, excuse about our busy lives, promise to do better, etc, etc.]

A few months ago, Eva convinced me to watch this WWII movie called Saints and Soldiers.  It took me a while to actually watch it, but once I did, I was hooked.  I laughed and cried as I watched it, then immediately told my brother that he had to see it.  (We ended up watching it a little later and he loved it, too.)  It’s just an all-around great war movie.  There are so many different points of conflict, and the characters all have their backstories, which is fantastic.  (See Eva’s review here.)

Anyway, Eva made a fanvid for the movie and it’s amazing.  Watch it, then leave her gushing comments about how great it is!!!

fanvid friday | she will be loved {randy&sharona}

So my siblings and I started watching Monk this past Christmas, after having it recommended to us by my awesome aunt and uncle. And now we’re on the sixth season. I think I can say that it’s pretty much one of my favorite TV shows ever. (Boy Meets World will forever be my favorite, though. Let’s not get crazy.) It’s got the perfect blend of comedy and mystery, with a dash of romance that isn’t overdone at all. Before Bitty Schram left the show, the romance between her and Randy Disher was just swoon-worthy. (And now we have to content ourselves with the peeks into Monk’s ongoing romance with Trudy. *sigh*)

(Obligatory rant: There’s a serious lack in Monk fanvids. I WANT TO BE ABLE TO BINGE-WATCH RANDY&SHARONA VIDEOS. GET ON THIS, PEOPLE.)

Anyway. Here’s my favorite Randy&Sharona fanvid. (If anyone’s found or, better yet, MADE better ones, comment with the link!)

fanvid friday | you were always gold to me {boy meets world}

I recently discovered this fanvid, and it instantly became one of my favorites.  It highlights Cory and Shawn’s friendship and how deep it is.  It also goes into how they’re always there for each other.  One of my favorite parts is when you see the parallels in what they say to one another.

“I don’t even know who I am!” | “Well, Shawn, I know who you are!  You’re Shawn Hunter!  You’re my friend.  What else do you need to know?”

“I mean, what am I?” | “You’re Cory.  You’re my best friend.  What else do you need to know?”

*cries tears*  (Seriously, I cry every time I watch this video.  It’s painful.)

fanvid friday | clintasha

Just saw Age of Ultron, so today we’re doing Clintasha fanvids, because why on earth not.  (Except that one reason… ugh.  Spoilery Clintasha feels rant to follow shortly.)

feels rant: the ox-bow incident

{Yep, it’s been a while since there’ve been any posts on here besides ‘fanvid friday’ ones – which totally count, btw – so I’m here with some very ranty feels, although since it’s not about a really well known movie, I doubt anyone will reeeeally get it.  HOWEVER.  If you’ve watched TO-BI and been just as emotionally traumatized by it as I was, PLEASE comment and let me know and we can have a good, feelsy session about the whole thing.  ‘Kay?}

164. The Ox-Bow Incident (1943) Sheriff: God better have mercy on you. You won't get any from me.

I think this whole thing is going to be more like a bunch of mini-rants, completely disjointed, and they probably won’t make a lot of sense.  I just need to vent right now and get it all off my mind, because when you watch something a month ago and you still think about it EVERY SINGLE, STUPID DAY, it’s time to splash it all over a blog or a journal or an email.  And that’s what Ashley and Jane and I all wanted feelsy feels to be for in the first place, so it works. 🙂

~

Okay, first of all, pretty much every tragic death in movies/books/TV shows happens when The Person is married.  Kids (or a kid) are a special, heartbreaking bonus.  Oh, and you get triple bonus points with whipped cream and a cherry on top if said kids are really young.  Because then the mom has to take care of them all by herself and they’ll never know their father, etc., etc.  So, yeah, having the kids be babies is really something special.  AND THAT IS EXACTLY THE SITUATION WITH THE MARTIN FAMILY.  Half of me wants to cry and the other half wants to reach through the screen and kill Tetley.  UGH.

~

The members of the ‘posse’ were all complete and total idiots. (I mean, besides Davies, Gil, Sparks, Art…).  First of all, if Martin or one of the others had rustled cattle and killed Kinkaid, they wouldn’t be sleeping.  They’d be riding as hard and as fast as they could to get out of the county (or out of the state) before a posse caught up to them.  And if they DID stop, there would be at least one person left on watch. (And don’t try to tell me that they did leave someone on guard, but he fell asleep – all of three of them were snugly wrapped up and not in any position to keep a look-out.)  Mapes and Tetley and Farnley and Grier were all IDIOTS.

~

Gerald Tetley didn’t whip Martin’s horse out from under him.  DO YOU KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS???  I just…I don’t even want to think about it, let alone talk about it, but let me just say that there’s a reason Farnley shot him. (Twice.  Which was SO, SO uncalled for.)  I’M TEARING UP JUST THINKING ABOUT THE WHOLE THING.  If only Dana Andrews wasn’t such an amazing actor.  Then I wouldn’t care about Martin so much, which means that I wouldn’t have so many feels about the movie, which means I’D BE INFINITELY HAPPIER RIGHT ABOUT NOW.  If you’ve never watched TO-BI, DON’T DO IT.  It’ll shatter your heart, especially if you’re a fangirl, because we tend to get super emotionally involved in Things, right?

~

Why on earth did Dana Andrews not get nominated for Best Supporting Actor here??? (He should’ve WON too.)

~

Excuse me while I go wallow in emotions. (Not kidding.  I’ll totally go do that.)  Now, if anybody’s worried, I’m not going into major depression over this film, but whenever I think about it, it does give me a pause.  A rather sad pause, too.  I mean, just screenshots from the thing make my throat clench up and I start to feel a bit teary. (And don’t even get me started on The Letter.  Nope.  Not even going to go there.)

fanvid friday | feet can’t keep on the ground {spider-man}

This is one of my favorite Spider-Man fanvids ever.  I’m a pretty huge Peter Parker fan (as some of you may know), so that’s high praise.  Why?  Because, honestly, he’s got one of the best storylines of any Marvel character, and definitely one of the feelsiest.  (Yes, Eva, even more feelsy than Steve and Bucky.  I’m not even kidding.)  I’m going to do an entire post about him one of these days, I promise.  I just have to get my life in order first.  😉

(The music for this video is a little dub-steppy.  : ))))) )

On a related note, how many of you enjoyed Nerd Christmas yesterday?  A Star Wars trailer AND the Batman vs. Superman trailer!  I didn’t really care about either, but does anyone want to weigh in on one or both of them?

fanvid friday | colors and promises {anne of green gables}

I’m currently mildly obsessed with Anne of Green Gables, partially due to Green Gables Fables, which a friend of mine introduced me to.  (So. Good!)  I’ve loved AoGG for so long.  I can relate to Anne on so many levels, and I’ve wanted my own Gilbert Blythe for forever, because he’s awesome and one of the best literary characters out there.  Also, Shirbert is basically my OTP.  So I have many feels when I watch this video (yes, even to the point of happy tears).  Watch it.  You’ll love it.

fanvid friday | sparkwood {cloudy with a chance of meatballs}

Flint Lockwood & Sam Sparks (Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs)

It is a truth universally acknowledged that Flint and Sam(antha) are just about the most adorable couple in the history of animated movies.  He’s dorky and smart and she’s dorky and smart and they’re perfectly suited for each other and they have an absolutely darling relationship that gets even better in the second movie.  Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to find too many fan-videos centered around them, but I’ll share my favorite one, at least. 🙂

ARE THEY NOT THE CUTEST?
